VACANCY AT VID: POSTDOC POSITION (F/M/X)

The Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is offering a full-time (40h per week) Postdoc position to join the Research Group on Health and Longevity, headed by Marc Luy, for a duration of 3 years. An extension up to 6 years is possible.

The research group investigates trends and differentials in morbidity and mortality. In particular, we want to better understand the causal mechanisms that enable some people to live longer and healthier than others. Our analyses are based on different data sources including aggregated data, survey data and self-collected data. Another focus is on methodological developments for the estimation of life expectancy and health expectancy, especially for populations and subpopulations with incomplete or missing data.

Your tasks:

The successful candidate will work largely independently on (sub)projects within the framework of the research group, present her/his work and results internationally at conferences, and publish in high-ranking refereed journals. She/he will also lead Student Assistants and PhD students, support the research group leader in coordinating the research in the team and take part in the application process and the acquisition of third-party funding.


Your profile:

• PhD in Demography, Social Sciences, Statistics, Economics, or other relevant fields

• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

• Ability to work independently and to collaborate with a broader research team

• Solid knowledge of demographic methods, especially in the field of health and longevity

• Excellent programming skills in Excel, SPSS and/or R

• Publication and research track record showing the ability to analyze demographic processes

Start of employment is as early as possible. The annual gross salary starts with a minimum of € 66.501,40, according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
