Verena Fugger is principal investigator of the project and is responsible for the analysis of cultural-historical transfers and social-religious aspects of the sanctuary of Artemis in the Late Antique phases and beyond.


Verena Fugger has studied History of Art and Archaeology in Vienna, Edinburgh and Rome. She completed her doctoral studies in 2015 at the University of Vienna and worked as a scientific staff member at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Culture at the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 2010 to 2017. Her previous research concentrated on Roman funeral culture and early Christian domestic religion focusing particularly on Ephesos. Finally she held a Post-Doc position in the project »Transcultural urbanity in the Syrian steppe-desert« at the University of Bamberg.
