Writing Eurasia
“Writing Eurasia” is a project on comparative intellectual history that focuses on the historiographical and literary production of religious and intellectual elites active in Eastern Europe from the 14th to the 17th centuries.
It argues that East Asian history after the “Mongol century” is inevitably a Eurasian history, not only in terms of its institutions and legitimizing ideologies, but also in terms of the narratives and forms of individual and collective identification. By examining communication between state and non-state writings and between different religious and cultural contexts, the project explores the extent to which there is a common ground for the study of Eurasia as a macro-cultural sphere and how this can inform our understanding of the medieval and early modern world.
Mongolia Cluster
The Mongolia Cluster is a center for the study of Mongolian history and culture based at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Vienna. Originally founded with the support of the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sport, the aim of the cluster is to provide information on various initiatives, resources and opportunities for the study of Mongolian history and culture and its broader Eurasian context. With a regular program of events and language courses, the cluster aims to strengthen the presence of Mongolian Studies in Vienna as a comprehensive field of study and research. With a series of Austrian and international programs, it also serves as a platform for academic dialogue on current topics in Mongolian studies and supports cooperation between Austrian and Mongolian institutions.
