Sandra Wabnitz is a PhD candidate at the University of Vienna where she is working on her PhD thesis Horse Lords of the Steppe: A Comparison of Latin, Greek, and Chinese Accounts on Steppe Peoples (4th-9th c.). Her research project analyses and compares ethnographic reports on steppe peoples in Latin, Greek, and Chinese written accounts concentrating on historiographical sources. It explores and compares the literary discourse on steppe peoples from these accounts, analysing significant themes that reflect key elements in the culture of a given society (religious beliefs, social hierarchy, marriage customs, gender roles, etc.). From the 1st of September to the 30th of November, she was a visiting researcher at the East Asian Department within the Visiting Student Research Collaborator (VSRC) programme to work on her PhD-project. Prior to her PhD, Sandra studied Sinology, History (BA) and Historical Research, Auxiliary Sciences of History and Archival Studies (MA) at the University of Vienna.
