During the Long Night of Research, which took place across Austria on 24 April 2026, the institutes of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) also presented hands-on research activities. In total, over 192,000 visits were recorded across more than 300 venues throughout Austria that evening, representing an increase compared to previous events, which attracted around 170,000 people. Around 3,500 visitors were counted at the OeAW’s stations.
At the OeAI’s nine interactive stations, archaeologists and classical scholars explained how they bring the past to life, which methods and technologies are used to examine walls, broken vessels, coins or bones, and how the traces of past cultures are deciphered.
