Barcın Höyük, dating back to the mid-seventh millennium BCE is among the first agricultural settlements located in Western Anatolia. While some elements at Barcın even from the earliest levels suggest persistent links with contemporaneous settlements across the Anatolian plateau, others indicate that the pioneers experimented with different technologies and adjusted their lifestyles as a response to the available local resources and socially driven choices.

This paper investigates the material cultural elements at Barcın and attempts to assess the complex local and supra-local processes of Neolithization at the site.
