»No research, no answer« – Austrian Academy of Sciences launches campaign on the importance of science
15.09.2025
Austria is facing important decisions: negotiations on the research, technology and innovation budget (FTI budget) for the years 2027 to 2029 will begin in autumn. At a time when the country's budgetary situation is extremely tight, funding for science and research is also under pressure.
The Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) is running a public campaign to highlight that investment in research and development is also investment in the future. With the slogan »No research, no answer«, the OeAW wants to make it clear that research is part of the solution – not part of the problem.
Visible in public spaces
The campaign will be visible in the coming weeks on online and social media as well as on citylights in Vienna's 1st district. It is aimed at politicians as well as the general public. The goal is to raise awareness that without research, key questions about the future – from health and the environment to digitalisation – will remain unanswered.
Renowned researchers as ambassadors
Five renowned and well-known scientists from the ranks of the Austrian Academy of Sciences are spreading the campaign's message:
- Elly Tanaka (regenerative biology)
- Georg Winter (biochemistry)
- Claudia Rapp (historical studies)
- Alexander Bogner (sociology)
- Angela Stöger-Horwath (behavioural research)
Their research areas exemplify the great diversity and high relevance of Austrian cutting-edge research.
