
The Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences offers excellent opportunities for archaeological and historical research in Athens.
In addition to the infrastructure of the OeAI Athens, 20 foreign schools and numerous Greek institutions with extensive libraries and well-equipped labs as well as a wide range of events offer an exciting and excellent research environment for all those who are interested in Greek-speaking antiquity from the Byzantine era to the modern period of Greek history (also far beyond the borders of the Greek national state). The sites of Greek antiquity and the Byzantine era and numerous museums are practically on the doorstep!

The Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) awards these fellowships for library, archive and field research stays outside Austria, which are necessary for the preparation of a scientific paper or publication or the preparation of a third-party funding application.
Applications are invited from researchers in the humanities and cultural studies
- who received their most recent academic degree (Mag./MA or Dr/PhD) not more than five years ago,
- who are studying for a doctoral degree/PhD or working as a (senior) researcher at a university or non-university research institution in Austria, and
- who have a specific project that requires a (research) stay outside Austria.
