»Kleopatra and Rome. Crime Scene Ephesus«

19.10.2026

On 19 October 2026, the exhibition »Cleopatra and Rome: Crime Scene Ephesus«, organised by the Kunsthistorisches Museum, opened at the Neue Hofburg in Vienna. It will run until 29 March 2027.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Austrian archaeologists discovered an octagonal tomb in Ephesos, along with a skeleton preserved inside it. To this day, it remains unclear who was buried in the so-called Octagon. Building on this spectacular discovery, the exhibition combines archaeology, history and the latest scientific findings to create a captivating cultural and historical panorama. It presents information on the key figures of this era – Cleopatra, her allies Caesar and Mark Antony, and her adversary Octavian – and offers a glimpse into a time of profound upheaval.
