The French Numismatic Society (Société française de numismatique, SFN), founded in 1865, has awarded a medal of honour, the so-called Jeton de vermeil, since 1934. This yearly distinction is reserved for international scholars.

On 1 October 2022 Bernhard Woytek, kMI (Deputy Head of the Department of Classical Studies of the OeAI) was awarded the »Jeton de vermeil« for 2021 at the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris, during a meeting of the SFN. He received the prestigious medal in recognition of his research on ancient numismatics. Bernhard Woytek also serves on the scientific advisory board of the journal published by the SFN, the Revue numismatique.
