On 19 May 2026, Barbara Horejs, Deputy Executive Director of the OeAI and Head of the Department of Prehistory & WANA Archaeology, was elected as a new full member of the Académie Internationale de Préhistoire et de Protohistoire (AIPP). We offer our warmest congratulations on this special honour!

The Academy was founded in Paris at the end of 2021 at the request of the Union Académique Internationale (UAI) to strengthen the international presence and visibility of prehistoric and protohistoric archaeology within national academic institutions. In line with this objective, it is dedicated to promoting scientific progress and the acquisition of knowledge in the study of human history – from its beginnings to the end of the Iron Age – at an international level.

Admission to the AIPP is exclusive and is based on a set of criteria that assesses not only academic achievements but also the candidates’ international recognition, scientific publications and excavation activities. Worldwide, membership is limited to a maximum of 120 members, divided equally between the fields of prehistoric and protohistoric archaeology.
