Within the framework of the one-day workshop scientists will hold presentations on the current status of archaeometric research in Austria. Two keynote lectures will deal with functional aspects of ceramics on the basis of archaeometric methods from the field of physics and organic chemistry.
The lecture topics cover a wide chronological and geographical range from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages and from western Europe to eastern Anatolia.
The focus is on the use of different scientific methods on archaeological ceramics, metals, mortar, pigments, and marbles. The main focus is to encourage exchange and networking between scientists of different Austrian research institutions dealing with archaeometric methods. The invitation of external international scientists will provide an opportunity to gain an overview of areas in need of further development in Austria.
