MIDAS is alive!

After a three-year hibernation, the MIDAS re-commissioning started with a passive checkout on 27 March. The wakeup of the instrument was a great success. The analysis of the data showed that MIDAS is in an excellent condition. Not only that the power consumption was nominal and the on-board voltage monitors showed nominal values, also the mechanisms worked like a charm and the frequency scans of the cantilevers were as expected. As a next step, the upload of the improved MIDAS software will be performed. The first "real" scan of a target, that has been exposed during hibernation, is scheduled for 31 March. Grünes Licht für MIDAS

Nach einer dreijährigen Tiefschlafphase wurde MIDAS am 27. März erfolgreich aufgeweckt. Die Analyse der Daten hat gezeigt, dass sich MIDAS in einem ausgezeichneten Gesundheitszustand befindet. Alle Werte sind im grünen Bereich. Als nächster Schritt wird die verbesserte Software hochgeladen. Der erste "echte" Scan einer Probe ist für 31. März vorgesehen. Generalprobe für MIDAS

Das Rasterkraftmikroskop MIDAS an Bord von Rosetta wird am 27. März nach zweieinhalb Jahren Flugzeit zum ersten Mal wieder eingeschaltet. Bis einschließlich 7. April wird das Instrument mit verbesserter Software versehen, mehrfach kalibriert und auf die operationelle Phase vorbereitet.
