Johannes Koder presents a German translation of a part of the most important source for the early centuries of the Byzantine Empire

Under the title "Die frommen Byzantiner und ihre bösen Nachbarn", Johannes Koder, emeritus Professor for Byzantine Studies of the University of Vienna and und honorary collaborator of the Department for Byzantine Studies at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, presents a new German translation and commentary of the passages on the years 582 to 717 AD of the Chronicle of Theophanes Confessor (early 9th century). This makes this central source for the first centuries of the Byzantine Empire and the early period of Islam accessible to a wider readership.
