The event will focus on the exchange of expertise on current developments and challenges in watermark research in the context of digital technologies. The conference is aimed at a specialist audience from relevant heritage institutions as well as from the fields of humanities, information technology, and materials science.

The conference marks the conclusion of a DFG-funded project on the cataloguing and thermography of watermarks in the earliest music prints held at the Bavarian State Library up to the mid-16th century and is organized in cooperation with the Bernstein Project.

A major theme will be on watermarks in music sources. Other key topics include methodological and technical aspects of digital watermark detection, issues of standardization in documentation, and the potential and challenges of using artificial intelligence in the identification, classification, and evaluation of watermarks.

The conference is intended as an interdisciplinary forum for exchange between research and practice. Papers addressing theoretical, methodological, or application-oriented aspects of watermark research are invited.
