Shamim Sherafat is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the "Demography of Austria" group at the Vienna Institute of Demography. Her research employs mixed-methods approaches to study women's health, healthcare systems, and the cultural, social, and economic determinants of health. Her primary focus is to examine how institutional structures, cultural norms, and socioeconomic factors influence health outcomes and access to healthcare.
Her current project investigates the health status of women with disabled family members across several selected countries. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Shahid Beheshti University, where her dissertation developed a multi-grounded theory model to analyze doctor-patient relationships in Iran. Her previous research has examined gynecological violence, healthcare access for marginalized populations, and the social determinants of health. She has experience working with refugee and migrant communities, with a particular focus on women's health and empowerment.
