Biographical sketch

Bernhard Rengs joined the Vienna Institute of Demography in 2014. He has an interdisciplinary background in computer science and economics and received his master and PhD degrees from TU Wien, Austria. From 2003 to 2014 he was Assistant Professor at the Institute for Mathematical Methods in Economics, TU Wien, Austria. His current research focuses on studying forced migration, the human capital of migrants and labor market and integration policies. He conducted scientific surveys when crucial data was not available and mainly works with microdata based on survey samples or full datasets, e.g. as those provided in the Austrian microdata center. Another interest lies in the development and usage of novel approaches in information visualization to present and communicate insights. Past research focused on the application of computational agent-based modelling in demography and population economics as well as environmental economics & policy employing socio-economic and evolutionary economic insights.
