Biographical sketch

Takuya is from Japan and earned his Master’s and PhD in Chemistry from Kyoto University, where he studied the application of sequence-specific DNA-binding molecules for the artificial manipulation of gene regulation and mitochondrial DNA. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at RIKEN and the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences, focusing on the development of a highly sensitive protein quantification system based on single-molecule imaging. He joined the Gerlich Lab in 2024 to study how sister chromatid structure is established during and after DNA replication. He primarily employs sequencing-based approaches to investigate the dynamics of sister chromatid conformation and to elucidate how it is coupled to DNA replication regulation. Outside the lab, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing with his two daughters.
