Biographical sketch

Max grew up in London and studied Molecular & Cellular Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. He received his Master’s degree from Oxford in 2018, with a focus on cell cycle-specific kinesins. Max then spent two years working outside of science, before realising he missed research too much and trading the office for the microscope. In particular, Max is interested in small biophysical changes that cause dramatic effects within the cell. Since joining the Gerlich lab as a PhD student, Max has been focusing on understanding how global chromatin compaction is controlled by histone modifications in apoptosis and mitosis, and the functions that compaction serves in each case. Away from the lab, Max enjoys singing, skiing and swimming in the Danube.
