Biographical sketch
With a strong dual foundation in Molecular Biology and Computer Science from the University of Vienna, alongside early research at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, Christoph is dedicated to accelerating scientific discovery through software. He complements this with robust industry experience in software architecture & engineering, DevOps, and AI development. Currently, as the Senior Bioinformatician in the Gerlich Group, he serves as the computational lead, focusing on translating complex high-throughput genomics and microscopy data into biological insights. His research centers on developing novel analytical methods, advanced NGS & bioimage analysis frameworks, and interactive visualization tools like HiCognition for 3D genomics. He is passionate about empowering researchers by teaching computational thinking and fostering analytical independence. Beyond the lab, Christoph is an active adventurer who enjoys scuba diving, rock climbing, ski touring, and strategizing over complex board games.
