The International Scientific Committee on Research in the Alps promotes international cooperation in Alpine research. In 2000, ISCAR was recognized by the Alpine Conference as an official observer of the Alpine Convention. In this function, ISCAR provides research and scientific expertise in the official bodies of the Alpine Convention, from which it takes up research needs.

Forum Alpinum 2024: The Alps – a Refuge of Bio- and Geodiversity?

ISCAR organised the ForumAlpinum 2024 in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia,  around the question «The Alps – a Refuge of Bio- and Geodiversity?” The forum will identified hotspots of bio- and geodiversity and their management in the Alps, analysed land use conflicts and their impact on bio- and geodiversity, and assessed the relevance of bio- and geodiversity protection in the regional, national or international context to discuss possible solutions.

 

Alpweek Intermezzo 2019: Tomorrow in the Alps

AlpWeek Intermezzo was held on 3 April 2019 with a political discussion on relevant topics for the future of the Alpine Region. On 4 April, a project showcase featured inspiring stories on the topic “Tomorrow in the Alps”, followed by interactive market stands. The 2019 edition of the event is conceived as a lunch to lunch conference which brought the main Alpine stakeholders together to meet and exchange views on the topic “Tomorrow in the Alps”. 

Forum Alpinum 2018 & 7th Water Conference: Alpine Water – Common Good or Source of Conflicts?

Changing environmental and climatic conditions as well as growing demand is likely to lead to conflicts in water use and water management in the Alps. This ForumAlpinum will identify hot spots of water use and management in the Alps, will analyse target conflicts, assess their relevance in a regional, national or international context, and discuss possible solutions.
