The AI.D project improves skills in working with AI

The 30-month education and research project “AI.D (AI and the shaping of democracy)” was recognised as an example of good practice. Through the publication of modular teaching materials and a well-researched policy paper, practical concepts were developed for the education sector on how to deal with artificial intelligence (AI).

Training for teachers in adult and vocational education on the use of AI-based technologies

At the heart of the completed project lies the development of scientifically sound teaching materials and a flexible blended-learning approach. The modular teaching approach is a key component in the transfer of knowledge. It enables more targeted professional development for teachers in adult and vocational education in the use of AI-based technologies.

Stefan Strauß from the ITA project team sums it up: “The project has succeeded in bringing together people from what are, in some cases, very different educational fields to jointly develop concepts for knowledge transfer aimed at strengthening critical AI literacy. That is a wonderful outcome.”

Open access and broad impact

In the spirit of open education and to ensure a broad impact, all materials on the democracy-ai.eu platform are freely accessible. Beyond the professional development of teachers, the project makes a lasting contribution to strengthening critical media literacy and digital political education amongst diverse social target groups.

Recommendations for action in the education sector

To ensure the long-term and future-proof use of AI in education, a policy paper has been drawn up based on key findings and an analysis of the educational policy framework. It highlights key challenges and sets out recommendations for action to ensure the constructive use of AI in the education sector.
