Research reveals local perceptions and preferences amid rapid urbanization in the Central Andes

Researchers from the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research, in collaboration with colleagues from Peru and Italy, have published a study on rural-urban transformation in Peru's highlands. The open-access article, featured in Mountain Research and Development, examines how local communities perceive and respond to rapid urbanization. The study, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), highlights the complex interplay between traditional rural lifestyles and emerging urban dynamics, pointing at perceptions and preferences, and offering valuable insights for sustainable development strategies in the Central Andes. https://doi.org/10.1659/mrd.2024.00026
