The project cluster brings together all long-term project activities at the ACDH-CH relating to the Dictionary of Historical Bavarian Dialects in Austria and South Tyrol (WBÖ). The project cluster aims to optimize the networking of the five task areas and team members.
The aim of the corpus and computational linguistics-oriented task area WBÖ – Corpus & Infrastructure is the digital processing, enrichment and linking of all materials and data collected to date in the context of the WBÖ in order to make them available for research and the interested public.
The WBÖ materials and data undergo a specific form of processing in the task area WBÖ – Lexicography, in the context of which the core stock of WBÖ data (namely the so-called WBÖ paper slip catalog and its digital counterpart, the WBÖ document database) is converted into dictionary articles.
The WBÖ data is subjected to extensive analyses in the context of the task area WBÖ – Research. The theoretical and methodological framework for these analyses is provided primarily by the disciplines and paradigms of dialectology, variationist and sociolinguistics, language change and language contact research.
The activities in the context of the WBÖ – Science Communication task area aim to make research results available not only to the scientific community, but also to the general public and to involve them in the research process as part of citizen science projects.
Finally, the historical materials and their creation and preparation processes are classified and reflected upon in terms of the history of science in the task area WBÖ – History of Science.
The project cluster and its areas of responsibility are supported by an international scientific advisory board: Hans Bickel (University of Basel), Hans Boas (University of Austin/Texas), Mechthild Habermann (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg)
