Biographical sketch

Wouter joined the Vienna Institute of Demography in August 2026. Here, he is part of the research group Demography of Austria and works on the SPATEMO project, which is focused on spatio-temporal modelling of family changes in the Austrian and European context. Before joining the VID, he attained a Master’s Degree in Spatial Sciences from the University of Groningen and graduated from the European Doctoral School of Demography at the French Institute for Demographic Studies and Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in 2026. His research interests lie at the intersection of demography and geography and cover topics such as migration, population-environment interactions, regional inequalities, and spatial and temporal patterns of demographic change.
