Biographical sketch

Paola Di Giulio joined the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2008 and since 2022 she serves as an Academy Scientist. She holds a degree in Statistics and a PhD in Demography from the University of Rome La Sapienza, completed in 2004. Before joining VID, she worked at the University of Rome La Sapienza and at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany. Her research focuses on health, disability, and ageing, with particular attention to socio-economic and gender differences in health and mortality. She also studies family structures and intergenerational dynamics, examining how social and demographic contexts influence health outcomes across the life course. Since 2024, she has been the coordinator of the head office of the REVES network on health expectancy, based at VID.
