Biographical sketch

Gwen Göltl joined the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) in 2024 as a PhD candidate at the University of Vienna. She is working on the project “Same-Sex Families in Austria” as part of the Family and Labour Market research group led by Caroline Berghammer. Gwen attained a Master’s degree in Sociology at the Department of Sociology, University of Vienna and was previously part of the research project “Couples’ division of work during COVID-19 lockdown in Austria" from 2022 to 2024.

The primary focus of her current work at VID is to explore same-sex families in Austria, utilizing newly available register data to provide fresh insights into the lives of same-sex couples, both with and without children. She gained funding for this research through the DOC Fellowship Programme of the ÖAW.
