Andrea Tamburini is a Postdoctoral researcher in the Population Data and Projections Research Group, which he joined in July 2026. He previously held a research position at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), and before moving into demography he worked in financial risk management. He is completing his doctorate at the University of Vienna through the Vienna Doctoral School of Social Sciences. His research develops advanced statistical tools for demographic reconstruction and projection, combining Bayesian hierarchical modelling, time series methods, and machine learning. Much of this work targets the subnational scale, where data are sparse and standard demographic methods reach their limits. He holds a Bachelor degree in Mathematics from the University of Milan and a Master degree in Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Sciences from the Technical University of Munich.
