We consider two-dimensional periodic water waves with a free surface and a flat bottom under the influence of gravity. Furthermore, the fluid is assumed to be inviscid with no surface tension. The waves may have vorticity, a property that measures the local rotation of a fluid element. We discuss the modelling of such waves and give a short overview over some solution approaches.
