One of the four sought after VBC PhD awards went to Sabrina Ladstätter (née Burkhardt) from the Tachibana-Konwalski group for her thesis with the title: "Molecular aspects of cohesin's functions in female meiosis and in the oocyte-to-zygote transition".

The other awards went to Florian Weissmann from the Peters group at IMP and Daniel Papinski and Nadezda Sedlyarova, both at MFPL.

The awardees were selected by an inter-institutional jury: Gang Dong (MFPL, Medical University of Vienna), Chris Campbell (MFPL, University of Vienna), Fred Berger (GMI), Anna Obenauf (IMP) and Sasha Mendjan (IMBA). Each winner was awarded a cash prize.

Moreover, the Mattias Lauwers Award was presented to Florian Grössl of the Haubensak lab at the IMP. This distinction goes to the student who has given the best seminar talk of the year. The award is named after the late Mattias Lauwers, a talented young PhD Student in the group of David Keays.

Congratulations to the winners on their extraordinary achievements!
