Bridging Biology and Technology

This year´s PhD symposium takes place on November 3rd and 4th 2016 and highlights successful synergies between technology and life sciences. The Vienna Biocenter PhD symposium is organized by graduate students from four research institutes: Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI), Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL) and Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA). 

This interdisciplinary conference involves 15 international scientists who have unconventionally applied technology to basic research or conceived an innovative application from a scientific finding. Topics include “Molecular Toolbox”, “Bioengineering Medicine”, “Manipulating the Code” and “Shaping Ecosystems”. The 18 speakers from Europe as well as the US, include Jan Ellenberg (EMBL, Heidelberg)Jason Chin (MRC-LMB, Cambridge)Eric Vivier (CIML, Marseille) and Hervé Vanderschuren (ETH Zürich / Universität Liège).

In the context of the symposium the Mattias Lauwers Award for the best VBC Monday Seminar, and the VBC PhD Awards for outstanding PhD theses will be awarded to young researchers at the Vienna Biocenter.
