09.06.2009

Lucia Aronica, winner of Famelab Austria, came third in the international finals at the Cheltenham Science Festival. Her formidable presentation on “the two faces of RNA” convinced jury and audience alike. She talked about RNA interference and its significance in inheritance and disease.

„Brilliant performance“ commented Kathy Sykes, member of the jury and director of the festival. „Lucia has an incredible capacity to break down a very complex research topic to an understandable, very interesting and touching story about the future of medicine.“

For Lucia, communicating her research findings and sharing her passion for science are an integral part of her job. „Recent advances in molecular bioscience raise the need to improve public awareness about science and technology. This is a mission for science communication in the future, and I want to contribute to it.“

The winner of FameLab International is the Serbian microbiologist Mirko Djordjevic. Croatian biochemist Maja Marasovic came second.
