Julius Brennecke awarded START Prize

Brennecke is one of six young scientists who have been accepted into the prestigious START Program of the Austrian government this year.

The START-Program is Austria’s most renowned funding scheme for young scientists and is open to all disciplines. On June 14, Austria’s Federal Minister for Science and Research, Beatrix Karl, announced this year’s awardees. Julius Brennecke was chosen for his outstanding research on the piRNA pathway in the Drosophila germline.

The decision is based on an extensive review process by the international START/Wittgenstein Jury. Each awardee will receive up to 1.2 Million Euro over a period of six years and will be subjected to a mid-term evaluation. The START Prize has been awarded annually since 1996 by the Austrian government. The program is administered by the Austrian Science Fund FWF.
