IMBA scientist Vic Small honoured for his lifetime achievement

The European Light Microscopy Initiative (ELMI) dedicated this year’s conference in Glasgow, Scotland, in part to the work of J. Victor Small, a founding member of ELMI and a pioneer in the use of light microscopy, especially correlated with electron microscopy, to study the dynamics of living cells. The “Small Symposium” emphasized the use of imaging techniques in the study of cytoskeleton dynamics. Speakers included past and present collaborators and many former lab members of Vic Small. His most significant research articles were arranged in a special issue of The Journal of Cell Biology.

Prof. Vic Small, born in the UK, held a professorship at the University of Salzburg before he came to Vienna in 2004 to take over a Senior Scientist position at IMBA.

ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment. The yearly conference aims to promote biological imaging as a fundamental tool for basic and applied research in the life science field.
