Congratulations to Nobel Laureate Gary Ruvkun!

Huge congratulations to Gary Ruvkun on being awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, together with Victor Ambros.

Ruvkun and Ambros were honored for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. Gary Ruvkun has been a member of IMBA’s Scientific Advisory Board since 2008, contributing his profound expertise and insights to further developing the institute. “Together with everyone at IMBA, I congratulate Gary Ruvkun on receiving this year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology. This extraordinary achievement is a testament to the impact of your groundbreaking research and your dedication to advancing science. We are immensely proud you have been a member of our Scientific Advisory Board for so many years”, says Elly Tanaka, IMBA’s scientific director. “Your work – and your visits, for example just last week -  continue to inspire researchers at IMBA and the Vienna BioCenter.”

“Gary Ruvkun has been a long-term member of IMBA’s Scientific Advisory Board, and his input has shaped IMBA’s scientific journey”, adds Jürgen Knoblich, senior group leader at IMBA. “I congratulate Gary on receiving the Nobel Prize in Physiology.
