Beatrix Karl, Minister of Science and Research visited IMBA

Dr. Beatrix Karl, Austrian Minister of Science and Research visited IMBA on Thursday, July 8th. Scientific Director Josef Penninger who hosted the visit guided Beatrix Karl through the Institute and presented a selection of IMBA’s latest research projects.

Director Penninger elaborated on future strategies and plans for IMBA and underlined the importance of basic research to the healthy development of science and technology in Austria. 

Beatrix Karl also met last year’s Wittgenstein prize laureate and Deputy Scientific Director Jürgen Knoblich as well as other IMBA group leaders, including Julius Brennecke who was recently awarded both an ERC Starting Grant by the EU and a START Prize by the Austrian government.

Finally, Beatrix Karl met two young students of the “genau” summer school, a program aimed to ignite the interest of young people in science. Beatrix Karl was “very glad to see such talented young academics in Austrian research institutions“.
