Investigating the Mechanisms of Neuromuscular Specificity in axolotl motor nerve regeneration

I want to understand the molecular mechanisms that allow axolotl motor axons after nerve transection to accurately path-find and re-form connections with their original muscle target and restore motor functionality. This ability of the axolotl is well beyond the regenerative capacity of human nerves. In order to understand this process, I am combining modern sequencing and molecular approaches with behavioral analysis and high-resolution imaging to understand how motor axons in the axolotl “know” how to find their place.
