In their lecture, they will present some results of their project on the interplay between societies of the past, natural environment and climate in the Byzantine and Ottoman Balkans (https://www.shh.mpg.de/1056512/byzres). This project was also one basis for the recently published “Companion to the Environmental History of Byzantium” (https://brill.com/display/title/24910, edited by Adam Izdebski and our CoE member Johannes Preiser-Kapeller).
Within the CoE, the event is related to the research topics of the Research Node “Geographies of Power” and the Transversal Working Group “Impacts and Interpretations of Environmental Heritage”.
