We are pleased to announce the publication of a new special issue of the journal AI & Society, titled “AlgoNomy: algorithmic normativity in healthcare”. Edited by Nicolò Amore, David Messner-Kreuzbauer, and Adelaide De Vecchi, this publication marks the successful conclusion of the AlgoNomy project, which was supported by the Institute for European Tort Law (ETL) in collaboration with several institutions within the CircleU alliance.

The special issue addresses a pressing challenge in contemporary healthcare: the role of algorithms as they evolve from clinical support tools into quasi-norm-setters. It explores how these systems influence decisions, practices, and values, and examines the complex intersection of medicine, computer science, law, and social sciences.

By bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives, the issue contributes to the ongoing academic discourse on developing and implementing AI in a manner that fosters responsible, equitable, and human-centred healthcare.
