Juristenrunde with Alexander Longin

Dr. Alexander Longin, research assistant at the Institute of European Tort Law (ETL), holds a Juristenrunde lecture under the title of 'Recht auf Anpassung des Werkvertrags' (Right to modify a contract for services) on Wednesday, 1 December 2020, 11.00h.

Alexander Longin joined the Instituteas a research assistant in October 2014. He studied Law at the University of Vienna, where he graduated with distinction in 2016 (Mag. iur.). During his studies, he spent five months in Paris to study at the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II). Alexander finished his Doctoral Thesis on the subject ‘Recht auf Vertragsanpassung beim Werkvertrag‘ [Modification of contracts for services] under the supervision of Prof Ernst Karner with distinction in September 2020 (Dr. iur.).

In this Juristenrunde he presents significant results: For numerous reasons, complex service contracts, especially in the field of construction law, are liable to generate a need for a modification of the agreed content of the contract. The conventional instruments of general contract law often do not provide adequately for these situations. In his doctoral thesis, Alexander Longin examines whether a modification of the content of a contract for services is possible in Austria in circumstances where the parties cannot reach mutual agreement on an alteration and the original contract does not provide for a right of unilateral amendment. The results of this study will be presented in the context of a short lecture.

The lecture language will be held in German.

The event takes place in the Institute's premises and is free of charge.
