For the Druze, an ethno-religious minority in the Middle East split between different nation-states, such cases and related discourses embody ambivalent bridges between personal, familial, and ethnic identities.

The ethnographically oriented contributions by Gebhard Fartacek and Lorenz Nigst are based on episodic interviews conducted among Syrian, Lebanese and Israeli Druze in the course of the FWF Stand-Alone Project P28736 Death & Life: Local Conceptions of Reincarnation among the Druzes in the Middle East, which are archived at the Phonogrammarchiv. A participatory approach was taken in the research process by involving Druze who came to Europe as refugees.

The book publication is available in both hardcover print edition and Gold Open Access format.
