Die Autobiografie gerät durch die Erkenntnistheorie der Postmoderne unter Druck: Dass ein Text die Wirklichkeit wiedergeben kann, stellen Roland Barthes, Julia Kristeva, Hayden White oder Michel Foucault ebenso infrage wie die Existenz eines geschlossenen Subjekts, auf der die Gattung aufbaut.Robert Walter-Jochum zeigt, dass die Theorie der Autobiografie unter den Vorzeichen des linguistic turn auf eine alternative Grundlage gestellt werden muss, die aber auch einen neuen Blick auf das Genre ermöglicht.
