Research Team

Rafal is a philosopher, scholar of religion, and intellectual historian. His research is inter-disciplinary, cross-regional, and poly-glottic, ranging among Buddhist and Islamic texts composed in Sanskrit, Chinese, Arabic, and Persian. As Principal Investigator on the ChinBuddhPhil project, Rafal concentrates his research on the ethics of belief in Sanlun Buddhist philosophy.

Ernest B. Brewster is a Postdoctoral Researcher on the ChinBuddhPhil project. His current research investigates the philosophical contributions of Sinitic Madhyamaka Buddhist thinkers to the explanation of the nature of truth. 

Szymon Bogacz is a Postdoctoral Researcher on the ChinBuddhPhil project. His current research explores Buddhist epistemology and examines the apparent claim of some Buddhist philosophers, that we should not have any beliefs or conceptual thoughts. 

Fachi Shi (Shangyuan Yang) is a doctoral student on the ChinBuddhPhil project enrolled at the Universiy of Vienna. His doctoral research investigates the concept of the two truths as presented by Jizang, a prominent figure in the Chinese Sanlun school, and explores its connections with Indian Madhyamaka philosophy. 

Organizational Support

Hermine is the project manager of the ChinBuddhPhil project. She takes care of all administrative tasks linked with the project and assists in the organization of scholarly events.
