Founded in early 2025, the Junior EurAsia Researchers Network (JEARN) serves as a platform for students and early-career researchers from the four institutions involved in the Cluster. Its aim is to better integrate junior researchers into the Cluster’s structure and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and professional skills by providing opportunities for collaboration between researchers from different disciplines.
Several workshops with lectures, readings, and discussions on methodological issues and thematic topics are planned for each year to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and know-how on source languages and texts.
We will assist in public history outreach by encouraging selected presenters at the JEARN events to contribute to the Cluster blog. Both our English-Speaking and German-speaking members will assist with preparing the draft materials.
Participants will have the opportunity to select and discuss the books to be discussed from recent publications in the field of Eurasian studies.
A writing group in which junior academics meet regularly to read each other’s work and receive feedback from their peers.
If you want to become an affiliated member of JEARN and be included in our mailing list, please write an email to jearn.eurasia(at)oeaw.ac.at or to a member of the Steering Committee. Tell us who you are, where you are studying or have studied, and how your studies or research aligns with the activities of the Cluster (https://www.oeaw.ac.at/eurasian-transformations/research).
(Please note that becoming an affiliated member of JEARN does not mean affiliate membership in the Cluster of Excellence. To become an affiliated member of the Cluster, please follow the procedure described here: https://www.oeaw.ac.at/eurasian-transformations/about-us/faq).
JEARN is based on the initiatives of volunteers and is not operated top-down. All members are encouraged to suggest and implement activities and initiatives. The representatives of the four institutions serve as a link between early-career researcher communities and more experienced researchers. The funding of the network and the overarching organization are coordinated and controlled by the JEARN Steering Committee:
