With the ÆSR Lab – Applied/Experimental Sound Research Laboratory, the University of Applied Arts, the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts and the Phonogrammarchiv of the Austrian Academy of Sciences have initiated a joint project for research on and with sound. The ÆSR Lab is located at the interface of art and science, promoting interdisciplinary research and artistic creation, supporting the development and experimentation with new technologies, and providing infrastructure for research purposes. Three laboratories, some of which are mobile, focus on the areas of field recording, sound projection and the digitization and restoration of sound.
From November 13 to 15, 2023, the ÆSR Lab will open with a diverse program of lectures, panel discussions and performances from the fields of (artistic) research work with sound. The Phonogrammarchiv will be represented with lectures on the research projects SONIME and Reverse Ethnomusicology, among others.
