The annual Austrian TA conference, which is organised by the ITA, will take place on 3 June at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. The topic "Security as Technique" highlights the current trend in politics and the media to equal the state of being secure or safe to having the latest technology.

In three parallel sessions, questions such as "What role do justice and values play in the use of latest security technologies?" or "How do different theoretical approaches influence society?" will be discussed. In a special session about nano-safety, scientists, ministry and civil society representatives will talk about current trends in regulating nanomaterials and necessary future measures. A session about security research in the European Union will present projects dealing with the ethical and social consequences caused by security and surveillance technologies.

As the conference language is German, both the related news and the conference website, which contains the call for papers and the program, are only available in German.
