It's nothing new that our beloved smartphone apps want to track the exact location data. As annoying as the question of approval when installing the app and the associated discomfort of once again uploading sensitive data to the Internet cloud may be, we still accept it in many cases. With navigation apps, navigating would be impossible without our current position.

But what exactly do our mobile operators collect and store? And can we draw direct conclusions about our everyday routines based on our movement profiles? Walter Peissl takes a closer look at whether and how much is possible here, and how exactly they take it with the anonymization of user data, in the short study of the Federal Chancellery (Bundeskanzleramt)
