On November 21, 2025, the 12th Fusion Day took place at Graz University of Technology. The Fusion Day is organized annually by the Austrian Fusion Research Unit. The primary goal of this event, which is a must-attend for many scientists involved in the Austrian fusion research program, is to promote exchange and networking among participants.

This year, 42 participants from all over Austria came to take part in the Fusion Day, present their latest findings, and discuss them with their colleagues.

The event was opened by Professor Friedrich Aumayr, Head of Research of the Austrian Fusion Research Unit. He warmly welcomed all participants.

In addition to several 20-minute presentations by students and project group leaders, who present the latest research results from their working groups, there is also a longer presentation by a guest speaker each year. It was certainly a highlight that Gianfranco Federici, EUROfusion Programme Manager since early 2025, accepted the invitation this year. His presentation on “Towards a credible and attractive plan to deliver fusion (not just a promise)” was met with great interest by all participants.

A new feature of this year's Fusion Day was a thematic block in which contributions from new or potential new members of the Austrian fusion research program were presented. This was a good opportunity to learn more about their work.

Overall, it was a successful event with a lot of technical input.

The Austrian fusion research program currently comprises 11 research groups from Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, Leoben and Innsbruck. It is part of EUROfusion, the European Consortium for the Development of Fusion Energy.
