From 27 to 29 May 2026, the 23rd European Media Management Association (EMMA) Conference took place in Lappeenranta, Finland. The CMC contributed four papers addressing questions of journalism, democratic resilience, public value and media participation.

Sandra Förster presented the paper “Insights from Media Management: Service Journalism as a Crisis Strategy?” on behalf of Denise Voci and Matthias Karmasin. She also presented findings from the DIACOMET project in the paper “Dialogic Communication and Democratic Resilience”, representing the research team led by Tobias Eberwein together with Marie Rathmann, Marina Lindmeyr, Christina Krakovsky and Krisztina Braun-Rozgonyi.

Andreas Schulz-Tomančok presented the paper “Nothing About Us Without Us”, which discussed findings from the ORF Public Value Study 2025, conducted with Josef Seethaler. The study examines ways of involving people affected by poverty in public service media production.

In a further presentation, he shared initial findings from a joint project with Eva Tamara Asboth and Christian Oggolder on Austrian party media. The paper, “Back Again? Journalistic Role Perception of Editors in Austrian Party Media”, explores how editors in party-affiliated media understand their journalistic role.

The conference provided an opportunity to present current research, engage in discussions with international colleagues and contribute to ongoing debates on the future of media, democracy and public trust.
