The Observatory, a Council of Europe body, reports on the most important legal developments impacting the audiovisual industry across 41 European countries. It produces an indispensable publication for decision-makers and experts, aiming to enhance the flow of information and transparency in the sector.

The publication covers a wide range of topics, including developments in television, on-demand services, and the film industry, as well as related events across the communications sector. Through the lens of various legal categories, the reports highlight the latest developments in areas such as competition law, copyright, data protection, criminal law, and tax law, particularly as they relate to the audiovisual sector. Additionally, it includes articles on freedom of information, media concentration, media pluralism, youth protection, media literacy, European works, independent productions, self- and co-regulation, artificial intelligence, and more.

The Observatory gathers its information for these reports, known as IRIS – Legal Observations of the European Audiovisual Observatory, with the help of the IRIS network. This network currently includes two partner institutions and correspondents from across Europe and various international organizations.
